Huh. I finished naruto a long time ago, but I never thought of that. No, she never does get a backstory. Maybe that's one of the reasons people hate her so much. Interesting. You know, I would expect people to like someone they can relate to. I mean sakura is just an average girl and most of us are normal humans as well but I think the fact that she doesn't stand out that much makes her hated. She doesn't have that really strong will from the beginning and she sticks to sasuke but later on she does gain special powers and gets trained by tsunade and really wants to catch up with the other two, but by then the strong contrast between her and other characters made people hate her already.

So they can all be relatable to Naruto in the end.

Gon's backstory isn't sad per se. He grows up with his aunt, wanted to be a hunter because he wanted to be like his father

Ichigo, a bit of a sad backstory. Mom literally got killed by a hollow because he was chasing a ghost. Luffy has his share. Tanjiro, kinda. Bnha, kinda. Fire force, hard to say. Ao no exorcist, yes. FMA, yes. 7 Deadly Sins, yes. Fairy Tail, yes. Assassination Classroom, yes.
